📌 Who we are
FERAt – Federação Estadual Rio de Janeiro de Atletismo (Rio de Janeiro State Athletics Federation) is the official entity that represents, organizes, and regulates athletics in the State of Rio de Janeiro. It is affiliated with the Confederação Brasileira de Atletismo (CBAt) (Brazilian Athletics Confederation), which is the highest authority for the sport in Brazil.

Founded on March 27, 2021, the Rio de Janeiro State Athletics Federation, also known as (FERAt), was formed by clubs and sports entities practicing the sport. Recognized and accredited by the Brazilian Athletics Confederation - CBAt, as the only legal representative federation of Athletics in Rio de Janeiro within the Federative Sports System, FERAt has two former athletes as its presidents: Robson José Maia da Silva (former sprinter), president, and Dermeval Dias (former sprinter).
The FERAt management team consists of: Cristiane Macedo - Executive Director, Marlon Borges - Technical Director, and Fábio Dias - Arbitration Director.
The establishment of the new federation marked a turning point in the history of athletics in Rio de Janeiro. This state, with its significant historical contribution and symbolic representation in national Olympic sports, is literally rebuilding its history after its community witnessed, for a considerable period, the exodus of talented athletes to other states and a lack of institutional representation.
Following the principles of Transparency and Governance, FERAt maintains no connections, personal ties, ideological, administrative, legal, or political alignments with the older Federation that originated the option for this new and independent federative project. With authority and autonomy in all its legally represented forms, the Rio State Athletics Federation reaffirms its purpose of working collectively and assertively with public or private partners who understand the social contribution of sport as a transversal and inclusive tool for human development.
In 2022, FERAt was established with only 11 affiliated entities, with only 9 competing. By 2025, there will be a total of 23 affiliated entities participating in competitions across all categories (Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, Under 20, Under 23, Adult, and Master).
In recognition of the highest representative authority of national athletics, the Brazilian Athletics Confederation – CBAt, through its president Wlamir Motta Campos, Rio de Janeiro hosted the largest event in Brazilian athletics, the Brazilian Adult Athletics Trophy, held at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium between June 22nd and 25th, 2022.
Since 2022, we have been working with street race organizers to re-establish and reorganize the sector, rebuilding ties with all companies in Rio de Janeiro and also from outside the state, presenting the new federation and understanding FERAt's role in regulating street, trail, and mountain running events. In 2025, FERAt experienced 100% growth in Bronze permit issuances, the result of ongoing, careful work with extensive dialogue and respect.
